Cannabis Oil

A versatile form of cannabis, oil can be kept in a medicine cabinet so it’s there when you need it and can be highly concentrated for those who need high doses of cannabis. Oil is the preferred method for giving cannabis to children and the elderly.

Tinctures

Tinctures are a cannabis concentrate in liquid form. They can be used recreationally but are most effective for medical purposes. Tinctures are used for a wide range of purposes such as a sleep aid, anxiety reduction, pain relief, headache/migraine relief, muscle aches, epileptic seizures and nausea. Cannabis tinctures are so effective because a drop placed under the tongue can take effect within 15 minutes. Tinctures make it easy to figure out the correct dosage for your specific medical issue a drop at a time. The oil from tinctures can be added to drinks, recipes or anything you eat or drink.

Capsules

Cannabis oil capsules are a great option because you get the benefits of cannabinoids without the side effects of smoking. For those suffering with respiratory problems, protecting their throat or young children, oil capsules are a safer alternative. Other advantages include a steady dosage and a lack of smell.

Some capsules are made by baking the cannabis, turning it into a powder then adding coconut oil. Many need to be refrigerated so follow the instructions on the package.

Hemp Seed Oil

Hemp seed oil comes from the raw seeds of the hemp plant and is used by many as a dietary supplement and even beauty aid. Since hemp only offers trace amounts of THC, this type of oil is not psychoactive so it will not get you high.

Hemp seeds are rich in protein, omega 3, omega 6, polyunsaturated fatty acids and insoluble fiber. They are a good source of Vitamin E antioxidants and are packed with minerals such as potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc and calcium. People take hemp seed oil to empower their immune system, maintain hormonal balance, protect skin and improve cardiovascular health.

Some vegetarians use it to get their fatty acids. Some diabetics use it as a food additive to moderate blood sugar levels. Some use it to lower cholesterol levels by accelerating the metabolic process or even prevent Psoriasis by improving skin oxygenation and hydration.

Hemp Seed Oil Considerations

While tons of people use hemp seed oil for its benefits, there are some considerations to take into account.

Hemp oil should be avoided by prostate cancer patients, those suffering from heart disease or people who take blood thinners as it is also an anticoagulant and can have an anti-clotting effect on blood. Hemp oil creates conditions for cell regeneration, which could promote the growth of tumors, particularly prostate cancer cells. If you are at an increased risk for prostate cancer, you should avoid consuming hemp oil.

Beware that large doses of hemp oil can cause nausea and/or diarrhea. Also it should not be heated as high temperatures can turn its unsaturated fats into saturated fats.

RSO

Rick Simpson Oil, also known as RSO or Phoenix Tears, was created by Rick Simpson to treat cancer. It is a concentrate of the cannabis compounds THC and CBD that can be placed under the tongue, eaten or taken in the form of a suppository. RSO is a concentrate that contains a huge amount of THC and CBD, so it requires the patient to slowly build their tolerance to the psychoactive effects of the cannabis.

Though not scientifically proven to eradicate cancer, anecdotal evidence has shown it is a somewhat effective treatment. Consult with your doctor to see if RSO can help you and remember that it is often used in conjunction with surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.
